QUEST 9.0 (GRADUATE DENTAL SCIENCE EXTRAVAGANZA) - 24th TO 25th FEBRUARY 2025
The International Dental Educationists Association (IDEA) in collaboration with the Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet hosted the 9th edition of the Annual Graduate Dental Science Symposium at the Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet on the 24th and 25th February 2025. The Symposium was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Kumar Chandna, Former Executive Committee Member, Dental Council of India, New Delhi. Prof Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Founding Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University, Malaysia was the Guest of the Honor.
Dr. Sunil Muddaiah, Dean, Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, in his address said that in today’s world, the most important issue for any Institution of higher education is the concept of “VIKSIT BHARAT”. The Focus should be on progress and thus research and innovation becomes a key challenge for the young doctors and students. IDEA has been an effort in this direction. Today’s digital world has broken down national boundaries and hence the focus of QUEST has always been “Vasudeva Kutumbkam” The world is one in the concept of international co-operation and learning. He also announced the Institution of the Gold Medal for the Best Undergraduate researcher by the International Dental Educationists Association, the first of its kind in India. Dr. Chandna in his Address stressed up on the importance of such knowledge sharing programs and requested all the researchers to utilize such platforms to spread the research knowledge. He also recognized the efforts of CIDS in annually conducting a program like QUEST focusing on undergraduates.
The Symposium had more than 800 participants from all over India and South Asia for a series of paper and e-poster presentations which included: Original Research, Reviews, Case Reports and Technical notes. As a part of QUEST 9.0, Prof Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Abu Hassan delivered the K M Kushalappa Oration on the topic - “Sustainable Research”. Prof. N.B Ramachandra delivered the K Ponamma Kushalappa Oration on the topic - “Genetics and Genomics in Healthcare: Is it time to start a Genetics and Genomics Department in Medical Schools?”. Brig S.S Chopra delivered the Dr. George Jacob Oration on the topic - “The Future of Personalized Dentistry: Integrating Genomics, Artificial Intelligence and Precision Medicine into Clinical Practice”.
Dr. Sunil Muddaiah also announced the Opening of Punaravarthan (Centre for Maxillofacial Rehabilitation), The Centre for Digital Dentistry and the Cell Sciences Laboratory at the college. A prominent feature of this year’s quest is the Organization of the First Ever hands on Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry, which trains dentists in using Artificial Intelligence for better delivery of treatment in their practices.
